Chapter 12
âThe most climacteric moments in history are, as it usually happens, the result of a grand plan thrown asunder by a crucial mistake unrecorded.â ~ Prince Levius
993 E.W., Tamani, the Kingdom of Eros

Gormogon stood in a corner, trying to press himself under the small hanging covering it to avoid the torrential rain coming down around him. This was the fourth straight day of this kind of weather, and the fact that it prevented the two priests from moving anywhere meant it was also likely stopping JâKael. They were close, Gormogon could feel it, and the excitement of that prospect almost made up for the dismal conditions he was currently in.
Tamani was a large village-- that is to say, it had an inn and a small garrison of ten soldiers. Despite the amenities, it still lacked cobbled roads and, surprisingly, anything resembling a slave pen. That meant the slaves at the inn-- three, including Gormogon-- were tied up outside of the inn, in the elements. Conditions were never great for nonhumans in Eros, but even this was taking things to a bit of an extreme.
As he crouched down, giving his knees a bit of a break from standing without sitting in the mud, he saw a small group of people rush by, streaking into the inn as fast as they could. This wasnât surprising-- it doubled as a tavern, and in a place like this with terrible weather, there wasnât much to do but drink. Looking to the other slaves, he noticed that they had bundled themselves and tried to go to sleep, both of them laying down in the mud, trying their best to stay warm and resigning themselves to getting wet. Itâs not like Gormogon could blame them, at this point. He was exhausted too.
Through a window along the wall to his right, a young woman sat in a chair with a mug of mead. Her blue eyes flickered around the room as her fiery red hair fell from within her hood and onto her chest. She counted around thirty people in the inn, another two outside, and if her skills of observation hadnât betrayed her, five people had disappeared into the cellar. She brought her hand up to her mouth and thought carefully as she glanced out the window at the tera.
As careful as she was with her conduct, she couldnât suppress a feeling of almost carnal excitement within her. Some slave master in this inn owned a creature literally bred to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible, and they just left it lying around like a dog on a leash? Here was a creature with so much potential, so much power, and grace, and as a slave, oh so much rage and pain. She couldnât talk to it, obviously-- she didnât want to be itâs first victim-- but she didnât have to. The right inception of rage and vengeance, placed in its mind with a careful spell, would do more than enough to turn it upon this entire village.
